craft night, utah county style

This is the second craft night I've hosted since moving here, and so far so fun. I mean, how can crafting not be fun?! Just get some of the college girls together, and you have yourself a party. We made pom pom garland {you can find a simple tutorial here from one of my previous posts}. Super easy, and darling.
These monthly craft nights are becoming a regular thing... and I like it. A random mix of girls, which makes it fun getting to know everyone. Next month... something Easter-ish. Looking forward to another fun craft night girls! Thanks for coming!

I don't know what to call this one...

This weekend was one of those weekends that didn't really feel like a weekend. Ya know what I mean? It seemed to never stop, and now that baseball season is up and running, the time that I get to spend with Brad is few and far between. I spent most of my weekend dissecting the past week, thinking through the conversations I had had, the people I met with, and asking God to remind me of His goodness, greatness, faithfulness, and truth. I don't talk a lot about my job on here, and it's something I want to keep that way... unless I'm sitting down face to face with you over a cup of coffee... I'd rather not get too personal. However, I do want to be honest with you and let you know that working in ministry isn't a job that you clock in and out of. It's a 24/7 thing. There have been a lot of encouraging things ministry wise these past few months, but also some really tough things as well. This past week was one of those tough weeks. I had to remind myself that I'm just a human, being used by God, to spread His truth and love with those around me. Simple message, but it can easily get tossed out the window in my brain into something way more complex. So often I get into this subconscious mindset that I'm the one responsible for everyone else, and that when something hard comes up, I have to fix it immediately. But luckily, that's not the case, because I would fail miserably if it was on my own works. My sweet husband took me out to dinner on Saturday night when he came home from baseball. We had such a great conversation over dinner. We talked a little bit about work, but mostly about other things. I'm so thankful I married my best friend. I'm so thankful that he's steady as a rock and doesn't waver on anything he knows isn't truth. He knows who he is, and there's nothing more attractive than a confident man, who knows his identity is rooted in Christ. When we were talking about ministry, he gave me the best piece of advice, he said, "Don't worry, the truth and love in Christ will set them free, not you... Not anyone else. Only Jesus. You are only a vessel being used to share the truth and love of the gospel, you're not called to be anyone's Savior." Woah. He's wise. Thank you Jesus for this stable, wise, and grounded man.

two ingredient cookies {plus a little extra}

Thanks to the recipe goddess herself, Pinterest, I found a life changing cookie recipe that won't expand my waistline and put me in a food depression coma for days. Yes, days. You all know what I'm talking about... That feeling of eating 3 8 cookies in one sitting {plus cookie dough}, and not realizing it until you have a food baby and intestinal cramping. We all do it... Let's be honest with ourselves. Well, I have a solution... two healthy ingredients disguised as cookies. Bananas and gluten-free oats. Bam. A cookie life changer. Plus, you can add a handful of some of your favorite nuts, dark chocolate chips, dried fruit, etc. and not feel guilty about it. I added a dash of cinnamon, some dark chocolate chips, and a spoonful of peanut butter. So technically, I used 5 ingredients. But whose counting.

Mash 2 large over ripe bananas and 1 cup of gluten-free oats. Add any other ingredients you want in your cookies {I added cinnamon, a handful of dark chocolate chips, and a spoonful of peanut butter}.
Bake the cookies in the oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
Eat warm {they're delicious right out of the oven}.
Eat guilt-free and don't tell your husband they're secretly healthy. Some things are better unsaid.

I have a thing for this barn

I have a crush on this barn. A big fat crush.

A few weeks ago we drove by it on our way to Soldier Hollow for sledding. When we were driving past it, I made Brad stop on the side of the road to take a picture on my phone. My phone couldn't do the barn justice, so I thought it'd be fun to go back and take some pictures on my camera. We went to the barn and I swooned over it for a while. Seriously, this barn makes me so happy. If Brad and I are ever in a fight, he just needs to take me to this barn and we'll call it good. This place... The mountains, these horses, the snow, the barn wood. Swoon. After we went to the barn, we went to our favorite Mexican Restaurant of all time in Midway. Two words: SALSA BAR. Let's just say we were in a food coma for the rest of the afternoon. It was one of those days that I wish I could pause, rewind, and repeat. I just wanted to hold on to it for a little longer. It was perfect.

missing my valentine this weekend

This cute guy is in vegas this weekend for the the nike coaches clinic. You could say I'm a little bent out of shape since he's gone. Missing him as I stay up late watching chick flicks solo on Valentines Day sounded better than it really was in reality. While he's away, I'm consuming my time with creating lots of new etsy stuff for my shop, hanging out with girlfriends, and deep cleaning. Now that the sun is shining, I'm realizing how dusty our place is. There's a love hate with the sunshine this time of year if you know what I mean. Winter is good for disguising a dirty house. I'm gonna try to be as productive as possible, and sound less pathetic these next few days. Normally when he's gone I'm a lot less of a pity party, I promise I'm not a clingy wife usually. I was actually really excited at the thought of a weekend alone, but now I'm bored without him! That kid. But in all honesty, he deserves this getaway more than anyone else I know. He's been working his sexy buns off, and needs a man-cation. So, I'm gonna enjoy a solo-vacation, with some girl time mixed in there.

Happy weekend! Celebrate a President.

sea salt bark and a last minute love day gift idea

Need a gift for your neighbors, co-workers, or friends for valentines day??? Last minute is my speciality.

Here's your solution...

Sea salt bark! Done!

This stuff takes little effort, and you most likely already have the ingredients in your cupboards.

::: ingredients :::
{sugar-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, paleo}
*3 cups dark chocolate chips
*3 tablespoons of coconut oil
*1/4 cup of honey
*2 cups of nuts {I used almonds and pecans}
*pinches of sea salt

::: instructions :::
In a large saucepan, melt the coconut oil, chocolate chips, and honey over medium heat. Stir continuously, so it doesn't burn. Once it's completely melted, remove from the stove top and stir in nuts.

Instant love!

Happy love day!

valentines garland

I know that it's already the week of Valentines Day and I'm a few weeks late setting up the red and pink around the house, but hey... at least I got to it! I don't typically like the Valentines decorations you find in the stores, it's usually pretty cheesy {not that I don't like cheesy}, but you know what I mean. I was kinda stumped on how to decorate this year. I went to hobby lobby {for things other than this, which always seems to be the case when I go into that store, I always buy things I don't go in for}, and I found these little pom poms. It got me thinking... A Valentines garland??? Why not. I already had a needle and thread at home, so if it didn't turn out, I wouldn't be too sad because I only spent $5.

For the garland, all you need is thick thread {I used beading thread for jewelry}, a needle, and pom poms of your choice. It's really easy. Just thread the pom poms, and they should stay in place if you use thick enough string. They took me less than five minutes to make and I was done! Easyyyy. So, if you want a little pink and red around your house, it's not too late to make a garland {mine will probably stay up the entire month of February... Let's be honest}.

Happy Crafting!

our snowy getaway

Mmmmmm.

That's all I've got to say about this snowy weekend getaway.

It was uneventful, but in the best way possible. We did whatever we wanted and had no schedule. We sat in our cabin, drank lots of tea, sat in front of the fire, and read {well, to be honest, Brad read and I started the series Downton Abbey on netflix}. I'm surprisingly hooked. It's not the typical type of show that I would be drawn to, but I had heard a lot of people ranting about it so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm really enjoying it. Lady Mary and Mr Matthew are bound to be together... It's only a matter of time. I'm only on season 1 episode 6, so please don't give it away if you're further along in the series. When I was drinking tea by the fire and watching Downton Abbey, I was completely content. I could've stayed in that spot for days. Why don't we have tea parties, wear overly adorned dresses and hats, and have manners anymore? Just a thought. Not to mention those men in bow ties look pretty dapper. If I could get a bow tie on Brad I'd die. Glad I jumped on the Downton Abbey bandwagon.
Other than living vicariously through Downton Abbey, we went to dinner and were the only ones in the restaurant. Luckily we drove up before the snow storm. Our waiter said there were several accidents on his way to work. Sundance is tucked away up in the mountains, so driving there can be a little dangerous during the winter months. Apparently no one wanted to risk driving in the weather conditions either. There was us and one other couple sitting in the restaurant Friday night. It was quite nice to be honest. I ordered a deliciously fancy dish with polenta and veggies. Brad ordered a yummy looking pizza with all the gluten in it he could handle. Watching him devour gluten is one of the most entertaining things to watch. Poor guy... living with a celiac.
We had such a great time, I love spending time with this guy. So glad he's my husband and that I get to do life with him. Bring it baseball season. I'm ready for ya.
