2 0 1 3 {realistic} resolutions

Every year I always set goals and break them. I tend to set too many, and instead of really focusing on one or two, I try to change too much, and I give up because I can never follow through past March {well, more like February}. So this year, 2 0 1 3, I'm making THREE resolutions. Only three. Three that will be challenging, but so rewarding at the same time.

This year is different. This year my goals are simple and realistic. I have an actual purpose in mind with my new years resolutions. This year, I'm going for health. I know what you're all thinking... the gym. Nope, that's not what I'm thinking. I'm thinking mental, physical, and emotional health. Resolutions that are life changes. Rather than life ruiners, they are life givers.

Ready for em???

o n e : no more sugar. I'm taking sugar out of my diet. Not because I want to lose weight, but because I want to feel healthier. Since I already have a jacked up stomach, it doesn't need sugar messing it up even more. Not to mention, I'm one of those people who can't stop once I start. Yep, I'm one of those who lingers around the dessert table. No longer will sugar have a hold over my mind or body. I know that sounds silly, but it's true. I can't stop once I start. Zero self control over here. I will continue baking, but not with sugar. I hear paleo desserts are good for that. I see lots of coconut in 2 0 1 3. So, get ready for lots of questionable delicious health{ier} recipes this year... And a not so jacked up stomach! Woohoo!

t w o : no social media devices after 8:00 pm. Please hold me to that social media friends. I want to enjoy my evenings with my husband and friends, not be consumed with a phone or computer screen. I think it'll be a whole lot better for my marriage, my friendships, and my sanity. It can't be healthy to constantly look at a screen all day. I need boundaries and limits... So I'm making them, and now the entire social media world can hold me accountable.

t h r e e : read for pleasure every day. There are so many books I want to read, and I never read as much as I'd like. Instead of whipping out my phone when there's down time, I want to whip out a book instead. Wouldn't that be amazing? I'd finish so many books! I'm always envious of those people who can read a book in a week. HOW? Please tell me. Teach me your reading ways. I want to be that person. I think I'll try to finish a book every month... That seems more doable. One each month. I'll keep you updated on good books I read.

Whelp, there they are! My big three resolutions for 2 0 1 3. Sure, I have a lot of personal things I want to work on... Like loving people more, being a better wife, not being so quick to complain, and caring more about others before myself. But those aren't quick fixes, those take time, and those are things I'll never be perfect at.

So for 2 0 1 3 resolutions, those are my three. Let's do this 2 0 1 3 !

What are your resolutions?

  2. I love these 3 resolutions. I too am trying to reduce my screen time in the evening. Even checking my phone for a minute happens pretty often from the times of 6pm-10pm.

  6. These are very good :)
My boyfriend and I are both working towards eating healthier. We both desire to lose at least 40 pounds; college has not been good for our weight! lol.
We are also reading through the Bible (hopefully in a year).

  7. I love your ideas! The sugar one is one I should do, too. Especially chocolate...it does a number on my already messed-up stomach. I look forward to your recipes! As for the reading for fun, I am a major reader, so let me know if you need some ideas of book titles.... I have read lots of great books. :)

  8. Starting on December 31st, I became a vegan! I watched the documentary "Vegucated" on the 30th and although I have made many vegan meals before, I haven't been able to fully commit. My kiddos are gluten free so majority of the house will be vegan AND GF. 2013 is a fresh new start and I am already excited about the whole process just two days in =D I'm confident that it's a "resolution" that will stick =D

  10. Sometimes I really think the same way when it comes to social media devices and television: I feel so consumed by it at times and I think it would be great to just let go of them after 8pm...I'm just not sure if its doable yet! Maybe more of a cutback is better for me. My "resolutions" or "tries without formal commitment" as I'm thinking of them as are to read more, blog more, write more, craft more and be healthier too.'i want a better quality of life beyond the rat race. My mind gets too caught up in work and obligation that I need to find enjoyment in there too. Thank you for sharing all of your resolutions!

  11. These are awesome resolutions! They sound like mine, too. I'm trying to recommit myself to health too. I'm looking forward to your recipes! I'm not supposed to have processed wheat, soy, corn, milk, or blueberries and your recipes are usually the most adaptable to accommodate all of those, and still taste good :) I'm a huge reader for sure, but have recently been letting other things (like social media!) get in the way, so I'm committing to 12 new books this year as well. You should read "13 reasons Why." It's YA, and sad, but really good also! Happy 2013!!
