Nelson family photos

{ Photos taken by Katie Brown Photography }

The weekend before we moved, we had family photos done in Salem. These are just a few of the photos, but you can see more on Katie Browns Photography website. Katie is Jason's sister-in-law, so taking pictures with her was super relaxed and a lot of fun.

how to assemble a boutonniere

For this weekends wedding I used poppy pods, silver brunia, dusty miller, and peach roses for the groom's boutonniere.
Wiring stems is important especially when assembling boutonnieres, to ensure that flowers or leaves won't fall off.  It's also easier to work with if you want to create different shapes.
Here's how you wire a stem:
Top right hand corner photo: I have my 26 gauge florist wire, florist tape, wire cutters, and rose.
Top left hand corner photo: I cut my wire into thirds with my wire cutter. Next, I pierced the wire through the top of the stem.
Bottom right/left hand corner photo: I then moved the wires into place. Next, I used the florist tape to ensure that the wire is sturdy and easy to move around when it comes time to assemble the boutonniere.
{I also wired the dusty miller. The poppy pods and silver brunia have strong enough stems that they don't need any wiring}
I then used florist tape to assemble the poppy pods and roses.  I like to play around with the layering and placement before applying the florist tape.
Next, I added the dusty miller and silver brunia, and placed them behind the roses and poppy pods. I used florist tape to keep them in place. Another tip when assembling boutonnieres, always start taping at the top of the stem, never in the middle or towards the bottom. This is to ensure a sturdy, not floppy boutonniere.
Clip off the uneven stems. Finally, use florist tape one last time and wrap around from the top of the stems to the bottom of the stems.
Lastly, label the boutonniere and apply a pin.

Voila! You've mastered the basics of creating a boutonniere.

moving shin-dig part 1

I can't begin to tell you how loved and supported both Brad and I feel. We have been blessed with such a great group of family and friends.

Yesterday, Brad and I had a moving open house where we invited our close family and friends to come over and hang out one last time before we make the big move to Utah next weekend. It was so nice just hanging out, drinking rootbeer floats, and spending time with the people we love most.

Get ready for some awesome photobooth pictures from the party... They're pretty incredible. The people in my life are pretty incredible to say the least.

he's home !

I missed this guy more than you know!

I haven't had butterflies in a long time, but yesterday when I picked him up from the airport they wouldn't calm down inside my stomach! As soon as I saw him, I couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear, and I kind of did one of those happy jumping dances where you jump up and down and squeal, "Eeeeee!" You know what I'm talking about, right? Or am I being completely ridiculous? Ridiculous or not, I was excited to see him... And apparently the old woman standing next to us when we saw each other for the first time was excited too, because she couldn't stop smiling or staring at us. In fact, I'm pretty sure I saw a happy tear come out of her eye.

It's great to be with him again.
