three ways to use gold dipped feathers

This holiday season, I can't seem to get enough of these gold dipped white feathers. I keep finding excuses to drive to the craft store to buy more feathers. There are so many things that you can do with them... I don't think I'll ever have enough.

If you don't know how to make them, it's SUPER easy and cheap. I bought the feathers, gold acrylic paint, and brushes from Hobby Lobby. For a pack of 6 feathers, gold paint, and a pack of 5 brushes, I spent less than $6. To make these gorgeous little things all you have to do is paint on both sides of the feather. I free handed them, but if you're worried about painting a straight line, I'd use a piece of paper to make a straight line. Wait for the feathers to dry, and then do what you want with them. Easy enough, right?

{Here are three different ways that you can use gold dipped feathers}

1. Use them for wrapping gifts. They add instant charm, and spruce up plain old kraft paper.

2. String them. I used a hot glue gun and fishing wire to string mine. It adds a little somethin' somethin' to any plain wall. {Just ignore my dark string of lights... Not very classy, I know. But I had to add some lights to my antlers.}.

3. Cluster them in a vase. Cut the stems at different lengths, so the heights vary. I also use these feathers as bookmarks. If you're giving a book to someone for Christmas, stick one of these guys in there for a little something special.

Are there any other ways you display or use your gold dipped feathers? I'm pretty sure everyone and their mom has made these this year thanks to good ol' pinterest.

  2. I've eben making these too! although I used a rose gold paint, and also added some rose gold glitter to them. I made a garland as well, but used twine to make it a little more rustic looking... And gathered in a vase as well :) Best craft ever. I will have to use some for present wrapping as well!

  5. yours look so good! mine look like a wet duck :/

    I did use painters tape to get a straight line and it didn't ruin the feathers at all. I think spray paint might work easier??
