celebrating through my iphone

I had such a fun day yesterday. It was full of cake, friends, eating at my favorite places, and feeling completely spoiled. I absolutely love celebrating other peoples birthdays, but when it comes to mine, I'd prefer keeping it mellow and hanging out with a few close friends... Which is what I did, and it was perfect. 

I can never sleep in on my birthday, I don't know why. It's kind of like Christmas, but without the tree. I even set my alarm for 7:30, but I woke up at 6. I just can't help myself. Maybe one day I'll be able to sleep in. Anyway, the day started with me waking up to beautiful fall flowers, an unhealthy amount of peanut m&ms, and a sweet love note from my charming husband. He's the best. He leaves a little after 6 every morning for work, so it was fun waking up to a sweet surprise. 

Before work, I talked to my sister, my mom, and my dad on the phone. Let's just say I was a little late to work. I miss them so much, and talking to them first thing in the morning meant so much to me! I tried really hard not cry when I was on the phone {not for sad reasons}, I think just because this is my first year not celebrating with them. 

I stopped for coffee... I don't want to go into too much detail, but... I did manage to spill the ENTIRE container of half & half all over the counter, on my new boots, AND on every else around me. I can't go a week without some sort of coffee spill, but I think this one goes down as the worst in history. It was pretty embarrassing. The poor guy on his way to work next to me was so annoyed, but managed to be sweet. I think I ruined his bagillion dollar work shoes {sorry, sir}. As for my boots {because I know you're worried about my new birthday boots}, they are fine. Nothing a little water can't do. 

After that embarrassing encounter, I went to work. We celebrated at work, my friend Krystal and her cute baby Norah {the baby that Brad is holding in the photo above}, came to visit me at work. Then I went to lunch with Laura at Malawis {I'm quickly becoming obsessed with their gf pizza}. Went back to work, then headed home. 

Oh, and I forgot to mention that it SNOWED. The first snow of the year... it's never snowed on my birthday. I don't know if I'm ready for this weather. I think all the drivers were frustrated with my driving abilities in the snow. I think I was turning at 5 mph. Sorry, Utah drivers.

For dinner, Brad took me out with a few of our closest friends here. We went to La Jolla Groves. I don't think I've ever had better garlic mashed potatoes. SO good. In the background, rap music was playing in acoustic versions... The restaurant is pretty fancy, which made their choice in background music even funnier. We had a really great time, and like I've said before... I don't know what Brad and I would do without these friends. We feel so blessed to have such close friends so quickly. Dinner was the perfect "party" for me.

Brad made me a gluten-free funfetti cake, but unfortunately the frosting got a little ruined on top of the cake thanks to the tin foil. Luckily, the messed up frosting didn't effect the taste of the cake. OH-MY. It was amazing. My husband and his domestic skills. Incredible. We ended the night watching "The Proposal", Brad fell asleep 15 minutes into the movie {party animal}. It was the perfect way to end the night.

I felt extremely loved and spoiled by everyone. Thanks again to everyone who celebrated with me. I had the best day.
