preparing for girls group

{I've found my new favorite coffee spot in Salem... The green Java Crew house... It's delightful!}

Kell asked me if I would be willing to speak again at girls group. At first, I was like, "Really? Me? Are you sure?" That little voice inside of me starting giving me self-doubt that the Lord could use me and speak through me. I kept thinking... "Aren't there people who are wiser and better public speakers than me who can speak? I'm sure the girls would rather hear from them." Why do I discredit the fact that the Lord used me when I spoke in front of the girls last fall? He completely showed up in the fall, and spoke through me and used me, who am I to say that he can't show up and speak again? If I want to give my whole self to my Maker and King, I need to be willing to trust him in leading me and challenging me to do things out of my comfort zone. You all know that I struggle with speaking in front of large groups. Where does that fear come from? I know the Lord is teaching me that he can use me in the midst of one of my biggest fears.
I think I'm going to speak on the Luke 15 v. 11-32 {The Prodigal Son}, because it's a passage that the Lord continues to put on my heart.
Last night, I was going through my pins on pinterest {shocking that I was on pinterest, I know}, and I came across this little note I had pinned a while back. It's exactly the prayer I need to be praying.

  1. Praying for you!
    I don't like speaking in front of groups either - that's why when I felt God put it on my heart to teach elementary school, I had a mini panic attack. But now I'm more excited than ever, because I know even if I'm not the best speaker, that's okay because he'll work through me anyway :)

  7. oh girl, doubt is such a confidence killer, that's for sure! I remember time and time again thinking those same thoughts when I was leading a missions team overseas. Prayers and Jesus and a quick swipe of lipstick does some swift butt-kicking to any of those little voices:-) Those girls are going to hear your heart and witness the power of Christ though you, amen! xoxo

  9. God has been teaching me in the same way over the last few months - by using me in things that scare me (like joining the prayer team in the college group [praying out loud, especially for people I don't know super well, is super intimidating to me] and in speaking about my experience in Brazil in front of the church, etc) so that I have to rely fully on Him!

    Your posts are always so encouraging - thanks for being so open and thanks for the encouragement!

  10. I'm pretty sure I have the most encouraging blogger friends around! Thanks for all your support and encouragement! It's not me doing the talking [thankfully!] it's the Lord! Oh, and Bon Bon, I love your confidence boosters suggestions :] ALSO, small, small world... You are good friends with Kenneth Ernst? He's one of my husbands best friends! I'm shocked our paths haven't crossed yet... I'm sure they will with wedding stuff coming up though :] And Natalie, Yes! Let's meet there sometime! I would love a coffee date with you soon! I live super close... just right up the street from Java :] Have a great wednesday everyone!
