i didn't want to make anything too bright / red / pink / or cheesy . . . which can be hard to accomplish , since valentines day is one of the cheesiest holidays { although it is one of my favorites ! }
this is what i came up with . . .
this valentines day wreath is so easy & more importantly , extremely inexpensive .
what you'll need :
- styrofoam poster board
- book pages / or newspaper
- modge podge
- sponge brush
- scissors
- pencil
- burlap { leftover from my wedding table runners }
- hot glue gun
instructions :
- with your pencil , draw a heart onto your styrofoam poster board .
- cut out your heart .
- rip out pages from a book or newspaper .
- modge podge the pages onto your styrofoam heart .
- if you wish , cut out a small burlap heart and hot glue it to the center of your heart .
- cut burlap 4"x8" { you'll need about 20 strips of burlap }
- the burlap i used was already hemmed , if yours isn't , you can either hem it or leave it , it's up to you .
- to make the burlap ruffles , hot glue the back of the styrofoam { about a 2" line } and place your first strip of burlap on the styrofoam . fold the fabric back and forth to make the ruffles .
- when you finish making the ruffles , add a ribbon hook on the back of the heart .
- hang your heart wreath some place you can admire and appreciate it !
happy crafting !
Great DIY! I also don't have any valentine decorations, so I need to do some variation of this.
